FAQS ABOUT HEATING & COOLING

Staying comfortable indoors is important. We all spend much of our time indoors. Temperatures fluctuate throughout the year, and you will need to have a fully functioning HVAC system to always keep you comfortable. Every property has an HVAC system, and these systems require regular maintenance and repairs to ensure they work when they are needed most. However, most property owners have many questions about their HVAC system and their maintenance. Here are some of the most common questions that we get our clients:
  • How often do air filters need to be changed?

The air filter of your HVAC system needs to be changed regularly to protect the indoor air quality of your property and keep your systems free of debris that could clog the vents. How often you need to change your filter will depend on what type of filter you have. Cheap, disposable filters need to be changed every 30 days. Pleated or poly filters need to be replaced every 90 days.

  • What are some tips for lowering my energy bills?

Our energy bills are ever-present and must be paid every month. No one wants to pay more than they need to stay comfortable. So, what can you do to lower your energy bills? You can install insulation throughout your home, increase the temperature of your property by 1 degree, install ceiling fans, and close blinds or curtains during the day.

  • Should I cover my air conditioning unit in the fall and winter?

You do not have to cover your air conditioner in the winter and fall. Covering your unit can trap moisture and cause damage to your cooling system.

  • How long do heat pumps last?

Heat pumps normally last about 15 years. The actual lifespan of a heat pump will depend on how often maintenance is performed, how much it is used, and when you bought the heat pump.

  • What is a ductless mini-split system?

Ductless mini-split systems are a popular cooling option for those who do not have the ductwork in their home to support central air conditioning. It is comprised of one unit located outside and one or more smaller units mounted on the wall inside. The system draws air in, cools it, and then redistributes it without the need for ventilation.
